Jefferson Tops Chestnut Hill

By Joseph Shuron

The Jefferson Rams defeated the Griffins 74–57 Tuesday night at the Gallagher Center.

A rowdy Jefferson crowd carried the momentum out of the gate. Bad blood lingered between the two schools after CHC’s 70–59 upset win over Jefferson on December 2.

Jefferson got up to an early 12–4 lead with 16:00 minutes left in the first half.

The Griffins answered with two consecutive threes’ to cutting their deficit to four with a little over seven minutes left in the first half.

Both teams went back and forth to close out the first half but a statement three from Neal Hill at the buzzer put the Griffins down six going into the half and in a position to win the game.

In a tale of two halves Jefferson capitalized off a poor second offensive performance from the Griffins shooting 8–25 in the half and a mere 1–10 from three.

The Griffins failed to convert open looks that allowed for Jefferson to run away with the game. Excluding two free throws, The Griffins did not convert a field goal for almost four minutes from 17:16 to 13:32.

This dry spell allowed Jefferson to go up 9 and control the rest of the game.

Coach Radomicki said after the loss “It’s just the way it goes sometimes shots we were making Saturday and Wednesday weren’t going in.”

The Griffins fall to 7–16 on the season. They have some time off before their next game against their conference rival Caldwell University on February 12 at Sorgenti Arena.
