Post University played the role of spoiler defeating the Chestnut Hill women’s basketball team 62–56 in Sorgenti arena.
Post jumped on the opportunity to control the fourth quarter by launching a pivotal 3 to cut Chestnut Hill’s lead to make it a two point game.
With momentum in their favor and the game in balance graduate student guard Trinity Bravo drilled a jump shot to take Post’s first lead of the day.
A back and forth continued down the stretch. With every possession proving to be crucial, The Griffins called a timeout down 55–54 to draw the game winning play.
Out of the timeout, Chestnut hill ran a swing play to the left side sophomore guard Caleigh Edwards caught it and had a wide-open lane to the basket, but her layup went far right off the glass.
Coach Reggie Daniels said after the loss “Every streak comes to an end. Losings a part of the game and you learn lessons from your losses. You just have to keep moving forward and be a better team tomorrow.”
The Griffins dominated the first quarter jumping out to a 18–8 lead and holding Post to under ten points.
Chestnut Hill’s unrelenting full court press created trouble for Post early. They struggled to move the ball efficiently across half court and to set up their halfcourt offense.
Both offesenes slowed down as the second quarter turned into a defensive battle.
Still, the Griffins managed to hold onto a 33–23 lead going into the half.
Both teams got out to a slow starts after halftime. Leading 42–33 with four minutes left in the 3rd quarter the Griffins were controlling both sides of the ball. Post however, was slowly cutting away at the Griffins lead.
Post hit a big three to cut the lead to nine and with 1:18 left in third quarter they added another critical three that cut Chestnut Hill’s lead to 43–36.
By the end of the third quarter Chestnut Hill’s lead had faltered to only five.
Post’s fourth quarter surge brings the Griffins record to 15–6. though they have already clinched a playoff spot. The Griffins will look to get back on track when they travel to Jefferson University on February 6 to take on their conference foe.
