Super Bowl LIX:

CHC Is Ready. Are the Eagles?

By Riccardo Italiano and Jesse Balcer Jr.

It’s that time of year again, when friendships are tested, nachos are consumed at alarming rates, and Philly collectively loses its mind. Super Bowl 2025 is upon us, and after conducting some very serious investigative journalism (a.k.a. talking to 10 random students and faculty), we can confidently report that this campus is all in on the Eagles.

And we mean all in. Every single person we spoke to said they want the Birds to win. Even the two Steelers fans we found (Traitors? Or just strategic AFC loyalists?) are putting their black and yellow aside to cheer for the green and silver. That’s how you know it’s real.

The Game Plan

Most students will be watching the game at bars or at a friend’s place—because let’s be honest, the Super Bowl is best enjoyed with wings, beer, and people screaming at the TV like Nick Sirianni can actually hear them. But not everyone gets to join in on the fun. Some unlucky souls have work or practice the next day, meaning they’ll either miss the game or suffer through Monday running on caffeine and regret.

MVP Predictions?

It’s a two-man race. Six of the people we interviewed think Saquon Barkley will take home the award, while four believe Jalen Hurts will get his moment. Honestly, either one would be iconic. But as long as the Eagles win, nobody’s complaining.

CHC Athletic Director Jesse Balcer Sr. Weighs In

We also had to opportunity to talk with Jesse Balcer Sr., our college’s athletic director and a die-hard Eagles fan. He’s either watching at his house or at a friend’s place, where, according to him, the essentials will be covered: food, drinks, and a packed house full of Eagles fans.

When we asked for his prediction, he didn’t hesitate—Eagles 27, Chiefs 17. Not only is he confident in a win, but he’s also got his MVP pick locked in: Saquon Barkley, with 130 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. His favorite part of Super Bowl Sunday? The gatherings.

“Anything that gets family and friends together on the same night, I’m all for,” he said.

And if the Birds win? If school is closed, he’ll be at the parade 100%. (Hint to the administration: maybe just cancel classes now.)

The Aftermath

Win or lose, emotions will run high. But if — WHEN — the Eagles pull it off, there’s only one way to celebrate: the parade. Every single person I talked to said they’re ready to flood Broad Street if we get the W. Classes? Optional. Responsibilities? Forgotten. If there’s a bus stop standing by the end of the night, did we even do it right?

So buckle up, Chestnut Hill College. Super Bowl Sunday is almost here. Go Birds.
